The university campus is close to Lake Wörthersee and provides space for 9.000 students and around 1.200 staff.
Coming by car
There are two main motorways in Austria leading to Klagenfurt, namely the A2 (Südautobahn) and the A10 (Tauernautobahn).
From the east / Vienna: A2 motorway following signs to Graz and Klagenfurt (Graz - Klagenfurt approx. 130 km)
From the south: A2 motorway (A23 in Italy) via Udine - Tarvisio or A11 motorway from Slovenia, via Villach to Klagenfurt.
From Ljubljana: Take the E61 via Jesenice and drive through the “Karawanken Tunnel”. In Austria follow the A11 motorway until you reach the A2 exit sign posted “Wien / Klagenfurt / Velden / Wörthersee”.
From the north / Salzburg: A10 motorway to Klagenfurt (Salzburg - Klagenfurt approx. 240 km); extra toll between the "Tauerntunnel" and "Katschberg Tunnel" (€ 9.50).
For the Alpen-Adria-Univeristät Klagenfurt, follow the signs towards "Klagenfurt West" and exit at "Minimundus/Klagenfurt Wörthersee". Cross the intersection and follow the road (“Wörthersee Süduferstraße”) for approximately 200 m, then turn left towards the university (see the street signs).
There is sufficient parking around the university area. Since 1 November 2007, car parking on the University site is subject to a parking permit available for a charge.
Note: Motorways are toll roads and vehicles require what is known as a “Vignette”, which is available from motoring organizations like the ÖAMTC, ARBÖ, petrol stations (and at the border to neighbouring countries), etc.
