What will I learn during the degree programme?

The Bachelor's programme in Romance Studies at Klagenfurt focuses above all on the intensive acquisition of language skills. Students can specialise in French, Italian or Spanish. The courses encourage the students to acquire and develop subject-related discussion skills and a well-founded knowledge of the language. The understanding of texts and translation skills are just as much part of the courses as the production of spoken and written texts appropriate to the specific situation. Considerable importance is also attached to the development of educational and didactic skills. A further point of emphasis is literature and cultural studies, in which students are given the opportunity to acquire the ability to apply a critical, differentiated and independent approach to all kinds of texts, with a particular focus on literary texts. The programme also communicates general methodological knowledge and the main techniques for intellectual work, together with the ability to situate, analyse and critically review such texts within the framework of general cultural and social theories and explanation models. The programme is completed with a study of the geography, history, art and culture, politics etc. of the countries concerned.
