Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt

Business, culture, technology, languages
The Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt: young, open, international

With over 8,000 students and around 1,100 employees, the Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt is the leading educational and research institute in Carinthia. Its many research achievements have brought it an international reputation, making the university a major driving force behind Carinthia’s success as a business location. The variety and openness that are reflected in all the university’s activities make it the cultural heart of the region. Nomen est omen: the university's teaching, research and social life are firmly embedded within the Alps-Adriatic region, while projects in the fields of academic collaboration and culture are an integral part of the university’s sense of identity. Its excellent reputation extends far beyond the borders of the Alps-Adriatic region, with a campus life characterised by a vigorous and continually increasing teacher and student exchange, bringing entirely new facets to the town and the region.

The region
An ideal place to study

The Alpen-Adria-Universität is located in Carinthia, Austria’s southernmost and most attractive federal province. Bordering on Italy and Slovenia, the province offers plenty of intercultural scope to create harmony between the traditional and the modern.

The provincial capital Klagenfurt is one of the most important junctions within the Alps-Adriatic region, and is extremely popular amongst local and international students as a university town. This is due not least to the fact that research and teaching are perfectly attuned to the commercial, technological and cultural demands of modern society.

With a population of 95,000, the town is one of the smaller but all the more attractive towns in Austria. The many hiking and cycling tracks in the heart of a culturally rich region of lakes are an open invitation to explore and escape the hustle and bustle of university life. There are literally no limits to leisure activities, summer or winter.

The campus
Studying between the lake and mountains

Embedded within an idyllic landscape, the Klagenfurt campus is located on the shores of Lake Wörthersee, the largest bathing lake in Carinthia and a paradise for all kinds of (water) sports. The extensive gardens of the Europapark offer space and quiet for studying in the heart of nature.

The Alpen-Adria-Universität site scores with its structure, manageability and short distances. The restaurants in and around the campus have something for every taste, from Chinese to local traditional and Italian cuisine. There are also a number of cafes, bistros and bakeries with fresh products for a snack and a refreshing break from work.

A pharmacy, a bookstore, a bank, a drugstore, a hairdresser’s salon, a post office, a copy shop, a cinema and food stores are but a short walk away. Parking spaces and public transport (bus, rail, motorway) provide excellent connections to the town centre.

Teaching
Shaping the transfer of knowledge

Teaching at the Alpen-Adria-Universität is characterised by top educational quality, as is proven by the university’s regular leading positions in the Austrian university rankings. Teachers’ and students’ research activities are always at the cutting edge, guaranteeing the university’s knowledge lead. “Universitas magistrorum et scholarum” -- the unity of teachers and scholars, is a principle that is actively applied at the Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt. Small groups are a guarantee of the best teaching support, while the variety of degree programmes available also means that a broad range of interests can be covered in the best possible way.

Lifelong learning is the philosophy and cornerstone of the Alpen-Adria-Universität. Bachelors, masters, diploma, secondary school teacher accreditation and (interdisciplinary) doctoral programmes and university non-degree programmes or open programmes for keen and intellectually active senior citizens communicate education, training and further training at the highest level and for a wide range of age groups.

Internationalism and the excellent support during the degree course, even in the extremely popular subjects of applied business administration, psychology, education, journalism and communication science, and information technology make the Alpen-Adria-Universität an attractive place to study for degree programme and non-degree programme students alike.
