ISYS focuses in its research and teaching at the development and maintenance of large software and information systems. This encompasses especially

Data- and Knowledge Engineering, focus of the research group on Information and Communication Systems;
Man-Machine-Interaction, focus of the research group on Interactive Systems;
Software Engineering, focus of the research group on Software Engineering and Soft Computing.

These key areas of informatics proper are complemented by the research group on

Informatics Didactics which focuses mainly on teaching informatics in secondary schools.

Interaction between systems- or product related aspects of computerized systems as well as process related aspects of developing, maintaining and using such systems are the leading themes for the work of ISYS.
