The Information and Communication Systems (ICS) Team
The group (ICS) has its competences in the area of information and communication systems. Information systems are critical core components of most software applications, therefore it is a necessity for every computer scientist to master the corresponding theory and technology. The courses offered by our group range from basic/intermediate topics to specialized areas of database applications (e.g. transactional systems, data warehouses, data-mining). The portfolio is completed with special courses on tangent topics like semi-structured data, or data on the web.
Research, conducted by members of this group, has its focus on (temporal) data warehouses. We are further interested in business process automation, where we concentrate on temporal issues, evolution, integration, and interoperability (workflow systems, web services, web technologies). Though our research activitiy is firmly grounded in theory, it is quite application oriented. This application orientation is witnessed by an internationally active workflow-company that was a spin-off foundation emanating from research of this group.
